Helen, Vic defend Tito

Sen. Tito Sotto’s wife Helen Gamboa and brother Vic Sotto came to the beleaguered lawmaker’s defense regarding his controversial stand against  the Reproductive Health (RH) Bill and allegations that he plagiarized the work of American blogger Sarah Pope in his speech.

It will be recalled that Sotto’s chief of staff, lawyer Hector Villacorta, admitted that his staff copied the blogger’s work.

“Magrespetuhan na lang tayo. Yung mga nangbabato, tiradang pikon na lang iyon. Kapag tumitirada ng matindi, ibig sabihin may tinatamaan. Mabuti naman ang hangarin eh, we support him all the way,” Vic told “TV Patrol” on Friday, August 17.

Difficult for the family

Sotto’s speech last Monday, Aug. 13, revealed that he and Helen lost a child conceived while his wife was on contraceptive pills.

Vic said that the tragedy was difficult for their family.

“Magkasama kami ni pareng Joey (de Leon) doon. Kaming magkakapatid araw-araw binibisita namin iyon, 'yung baby niyang noon.”

Helen added that she also became emotional as she recalled her son’s death.

“Napaiyak rin ako kasi hindi naman namin pinapangalandakan na nawalan kami ng anak. Nagkataon na nung binigay niya yung speech niya, araw mg kamatayan ng anak namin, our first son,” Helen explained.

She defended her husband for his anti-RH bill stand.

No showbiz involved

“As a father, naging emotional siya. Hindi mo pwedeng haluan ng showbiz iyon kasi totoong nangyari iyon sa buhay namin, yung speech niya talagang we really received a lot of positive comments,” Helen added.

The couple’s daughter, Ciara also spoke up in defense of her dad.

She tweeted: “My parents experienced losing a child. Bashers/haters can't change that fact. Sana it won't happen to any of you.”
