The HERO4 Session, GoPro's smallest and lightest yet

The GoPro HERO4 Session retails for $399.99

GoPro has announced the arrival of its new HERO4 Session camera. At 50% smaller and 40% lighter than the current HERO4 Silver and Black, the HERO4 Session hits stores on July 12.

More solid and waterproof than ever (up to 10 meters), the HERO4 Session is operated with the use of a single button that starts and stops recording. There isn't even a button for lighting adjustment: the camera handles this on its own thanks to its Auto Low Light mode, which automatically adapts to any type of lighting conditions.

The HERO4 Session can also shoot video in several different qualities: 1440p video at 30 frames per second, 1080p up to 60 frames per second and 720p up to 100 frames per second, and it can do so for up to 2 hours thanks to its built-in, but non-removable, battery. While recording, it is even possible to "tag" moments with a simple light touch of the camera button. As far as photos go, the HERO4 Session takes 8MP shots, whether as singles, bursts or in Time Lapse mode, which can be set at anywhere from 0.5 second to 60 second intervals.

Another feature of the HERO4 Session is SuperView, a video mode exclusive to GoPro that allows for a wide-angled greater field of vision, creating videos that are more immersive than ever and really put the camera at the center of the action.

This new camera is obviously compatible with all GoPro accessories and will retail for $399.

The two HERO4 Silver and Black cameras, which came out in 2014 and are able to film in any mode in 4K, are still available as part of the GoPro catalogue, naturally, at a price of $399 and $499 respectively.
