Inday’s parting shot to Gretchen

Gretchen Barretto greets the crowd during Princess and I's "The Royal Championship" basketball game between Team Jao and Team Gino held at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay city, south of Manila on 20 January 2012.

The controversial Inday Barretto has decided to give her parting shot on the family feud that has created a big chasm between her daughters Gretchen on one hand, and herself (Inday) and other daughter Gia on the other.

In a statement published in Philippine Star entertainment editor Ricky Lo’s May 3 column, Inday first spoke up on the family feud to stop allegations regarding her daughter Claudine (suspected, along with Gretchen, to be behind ugly accusations on  Instagram regarding Julia Barretto, daughter of Marjorie Barretto).

Inday continued that she never meant to “prolong it into the World War III  level.”

But even if she admits fearing the absence of money and power to get legal assistance, Inday has come out in the open – she hopes for the last time – negate ‘vicious lies.’

For Tanya

The Barretto matriarch told actress Tanya Montenegro, who openly defended Gretchen:

“You say you respect me.  Please don’t – keep it – you need that for yourself. I don’t need respect from someone like you. I have plenty of it where I came from.

“I know who you are, what you are, but you shocked the world at how you could face  the camera so professionally comfortably in lying to tell the story of more than 30 years ago as if you were there when it happened, as if you were part and parcel of our household when not even our cats and dogs know you – tsk, tsk, tsk! – lying to the hilt without batting an eyelash. Unless you were coached to read a prepared story.”

Inday corrected Tanya’s statements one by one:

“It is never true that Gretchen’s tuition was not paid. School is top priority of our payables.”

“No money for recess and lunch? I don’t even want to dignify you and on that since you are not a dignified one.”

“So you saw Gretchen with a bruise of black and blue? Do you want to insinuate that we did that to her? We have no history of violence. Don’t be dramatic. People might ask you to convince them some more and all these events of 30 years ago, huh?”
Inday explained to Regal Entertainment matriarch Mother Lily Monteverde that she (Inday) got Gretchen’s checks because she was then a minor.  But Inday denied Mother Lily’s statement that not a cent went to the actress. Inday explained that the money paid for the car, the driver, yaya, gasoline and others.

Inday told Robbie Tan, producer of Seiko Films, where Gretchen used to make movies: “We  did not use her money, period, same way you made good business from the projects you made for her.”

More revelations

The feisty mother added:

“Gretchen sent her siblings to school? Three of them were already out of school when she joined show business at age 14. The projects she had when she was still under my care were never enough to pay for our 1) rent, 2) electricity, 3) food on our table and 4) pay for the schooling – all of them on that meager income?”

“The bill for Mr.Barretto’s  first heart attack was paid for from a health insurance. The second heart attack that required a bypass was paid by Tonyboy Cojuangco, something which Gretchen never made us forget.”

Inday is eternally grateful to Tonyboy for that “sincere generosity.”

Wish for Gretchen

Despite what happened, Inday wishes Gretchen happiness.

And if there’s one good  thing Inday thinks has come out of the feud, it is that “the truth come out from the talks that have been going on behind our backs about you being an abused child admitted by you when you made 'sumbat' through what you made Jayjay (Joaquin, Inday’s son) sign.”

Inday is grateful at being able to “correct the lies before dad and I close our eyes.”  The Barretto matriarch told Gretchen she (Inday) is  happy at being able to “give back to your father the dignity he deserves.”

Inday reminded Gretchen that it is their home that gave the actress “love and care that you think is lacking when you were a nobody and had nothing.”

“God be with you, as He is with us, now that the truth has set us free,” Inday concluded.
