Instagram unveils company first, @music

Social media hub Instagram has launched a new account dedicated to exploring music around the globe and connecting artists to fans to form a new community.

The portal, titled '@music', is a first for the Facebook-owned company and will see the service pursue different "musical experiences" each week, according to Instagram founder and CEO Kevin Systrom.

In a post via the official Instagram blog introducing @music, Systrom explained: "That means showing you a different side of artists you know and love, like Questlove (@questlove), and introducing you to up-and-coming talents from around the world, like Tricot (@ikkyu193).

"It means highlighting music photographers, album illustrators, instrument makers and, of course, fans. In the Instagram tradition, we will also welcome community participation with a new, music-themed monthly hashtag project."

The content will be overseen by Jonathan Hull, head of strategic partnerships/music for Facebook and Instagram, and Alex Suskind, Instagram's music editor, according to Billboard.
