Is Atasha Muhlach following in parents' footsteps?

Atasha Muhlach will make her acting debut this month as Brigitta von Trapp in the local production of “The Sound of Music.”

Does this mean Aga Muhlach and Charlene Gonzales’ nine-year-old daughter is keen on entering the entertainment industry?

“No,” the obviously camera-shy Atasha told members of the press at the trade launch of “The Sound of Music” on October 1, at the Resorts World Newport Performing Arts Theater.

Atasha said she only took voice lessons for the role. Did her parents give her any acting advice?

“They didn't give me advice yet,” she said.

Atasha also said she's “just a little bit nervous” to be performing on stage.

Resorts World's production of “The Sound of Music” is already the third staging of the much-loved musical in the country. It was first done by Repertory Philippines in the ‘80s, where Lea Salonga played Brigitta. They later restaged it in 2006.

In this production, West End star Joanna Ampil and theater actress Cris Villonco will play Maria, while Audie Gemora, Ed Feist, and on Joven will play Captain Georg von Trapp.

One-time experience

Aga himself said during the press conference of his TV 5 show “Pinoy Explorer” that Atasha's foray into acting in “The Sound of Music” is a “one-time experience.”

The 42-year-old actor-host said he didn't even know his daughter auditioned for a role in “The Sound of Music” until she had to rehearse for the show.

“There was one weekend. Tapos we were going to go to Batangas. 'Let's go!' We're gonna leave at seven in the morning ng Saturday. Then my daughter comes to me, 'Dad, I cannot go.' 'Why?' 'Because I have rehearsals at one',” Aga narrated.

“Parang medyo nabigla ako dun. Parang, okay. Parang dalawang oras akong nakatunganga dun,” he added. “Yan na yun. No more. One lang yan.”

He clarified, however, that he's happy for Atasha.

“I'm happy. I don't feel bad. I feel good for her,” he shared.

Aga isn't excited for Atasha's theater debut now, he said, but the “Pinoy Explorer” host said he's sure he will be when he sees the show.

Would he stop Atasha from entering showbiz when she's older?

“Kapag college na siya, then she can decide,” Aga said.

The father of two described Atasha as “the serious type.”

“'Here's my schedule for today: one 'o clock, four 'o clock I have this, 7 'o clock dinner with you guys.' Ganun sya (Atasha). 'What time is our dinner? 'Seven, daddy.' Lucky me,” he quipped.

“The Sound of Music” will run from October 15 to December 11 at the Resorts World Performing Arts Theater.
