Janella shrugs off competition with Julia
Her fans are having a field day pitting them against each other. But sorry, Janella Salvador isn’t biting. She doesn’t consider fellow Kapamilya star Julia Barretto a rival. In fact, the daughter of Miss Saigon alumna Jenine Desiderio and singer-songwriter Juan Miguel Salvador sees Julia as a close friend.
So the 16-year-old star of “Be Careful with My Heart” just shrugs off the supposed clash.
Unavoidable
“For me it’s okay. Hindi maiiwasan 'yon. I’m just doing my best,” she told the press after signing a contract with Regal Entertainment, for which Janella will do her debut movie, the horror flick “The Retreat House.”
Janella is just too busy counting her blessings to feel bad about anything.
Yes, Janella felt bad when she saw her classmates bringing their respective dads to school when she had none by her side. Her parents have long parted ways and Jenine has since acted as Janella’s mom and dad.
Letting go
“Hindi ko pa nakita ang dad ko since I was 10,” Janella states.
Not that she hasn’t reached out to her father. Janella relates that they would text each other on special occasions like his birthday. But he now has his own family and Janella learned to let go.
“Whatever he wants, okay lang. At least ako, I’m reaching out.”
Besides, mother and daughter are doing fine, thank you. Jenine is the self-confessed driver who accompanies Janella anywhere, even on out-of-town tapings.
Janella’s crush
It is Jenine who, like a seasoned director, instructs Janella to stand up after the contract signing with Regal, put a wayward lock of hair back in place and do other things that will enhance her image.
But dear mom has no control over how her daughter feels about Daniel Padilla, Janella’s crush.
The newly-minted Regal Baby is careful about teaming up with Daniel because she will surely get it from KathNiel (Kathryn Bernardo – Daniel Padilla) fans who are active on Twitter.
On bashers
Janella takes the bashing in stride. She even jokes about it.
“Bongga kung ipa-partner ako kay Daniel. Bongga din ang pagba-bash.”
But this doesn’t mean Janella is siding with the bashers.
“Crush lang naman,” she explains.
Janella may be all sweetness and light, but this early, she is showing she’s made of sterner stuff. She has the strength to face the usual showbiz intrigues.
That’s as good a sign as any that she can last long in the business.
