Even before her contract with TV5 ends in November, Jasmine Curtis-Smith has already confirmed that she has “definite plans of renewal” with the Kapatid network.

Anne Curtis’s younger sister admits she received offers from other networks, but her loyalty remains with TV5.

“Of course, TV5 is my mother network. And as much as possible, we want to stick where we grow, as long as it’s still helping me grow, that’s where I’ll stay,” Jasmine said in an interview at TV5’s trade launch.

Her own star

While Anne is doing well in ABS-CBN, Jasmine quipped that she can be her “own star” in TV5. She has played lead roles in TV5 dramas like “Nandito Ako” and “Undercover.”

“I think it all boils down to your own perspective, what’s more important for you also. I just think,  why leave when I get the same offers here? I can be my own star here also. If one day that comes along, maybe I’ll be much bigger as a personality. But for now, I am very happy with where I am. I am my own star, I have my own life, and the people I’m working with are great also.”

Jasmine feels ecstatic that her movie, “Transit,” is this year’s Philippine entry to the Oscars.

“Transit” earned awards in this year’s Cinemalaya Festival, including Best Picture and Best Supporting Actress.

“Pinili lang naman namin yung project because it has a nice story and it’s gonna be shot overseas. Noong well-received na siya sa audience, during the festival, swak na kami noon. Then, we got all the awards. Then, we got chosen by FAP (Film Academy of the Philippines) for the Oscars. So, parang dumadagdag lang yung happiness namin each time, umaakyat lang siya talaga. It’s quite surreal na nangyayari ito lahat.”

The Kapatid actress has high hopes for “Transit.” She wants to attend the prestigious awards night if “Transit” makes it to the Oscars’ Best Foreign Language Film category.

“I think ‘Transit’ is very different. It has that international feel talaga. It brings out the different aspect of the Philippine film industry talaga. So, I’m hoping that they are able to notice that from us also. Like the previous entries that we had, each time it has gotten better, it has improved talaga. I hope that they see that also as much as we see it.”

After winning the Best Supporting Actress award in Cinemalaya, Jasmine knows her fans will be expecting more from her.  She sees this as a challenge to constantly improve herself.

“Now, more eyes would be set on my skills and how much I improved from what I’ve already been recognized for. Kasi, hindi naman puwedeng makuntento na lang tayo kung saan ka naa-acknowledge ng mga tao. Kailangan each time galingan mo talaga.”
