JM de Guzman's take on early parenthood

JM de Guzman says parents should remind the youth that pre-marital sex comes with responsibilities.

This he realized, now that he is reprising his role as a young father in the ABS-CBN drama  “Angelito: Ang Bagong Yugto.”

“Bilang actor, responsibilidad ko na masabi sa mga magulang, sa mga bata na may mabigat na kapalit iyon, may malaking kapalit. Iyon ang main focus sa show, to educate especially children and parents,” JM said at a press conference in ABS-CBN compound on Tuesday, July 17.

He thinks  the obligations of early parenthood can rob people of their youth.

“Pwede siyang magresulta sa mga bagay na pwede mong pagsisihan or paghirapan. So, masasabi ko na hindi siya okay, lalo na sa mga batang hindi naga-guide.”

He warns, “Dapat alam natin yung gagawin natin, yung tama sa mali. Sa ngayon kasi, mas importante yung gina-guide tayo ng parents natin na hindi basta-basta yung pre-marital sex.”

JM is grateful to leading lady Charee Pineda for their great teamwork.

So why aren’t they playing beautiful music together in real life (Charee is engaged to a non-showbiz guy)?

“Sobrang kumportable po kami sa isa’t isa bilang magkaibigan at co-workers. Nakakapag-contribute kami ng marami, “ JM replied.

Intimate scenes are not a problem for them since they respect each other. JM said he and Charee have been friends long before “Angelito” started airing.

“Marami na rin kaming pinagsamahan ni Charee, since nung “Alynna,” “Midnight Phantom.” Sa journey namin, marami na kaming natutunan, pagkakamali. So, ngayon, mas okay na kami,” JM said.

Is JM’s lovelife as colorful as Charee’s?

“My heart? Jumping,” he joked.

Admiring Jessy Mendiola

He admits having a crush on Jessy Mendiola.

“I’m looking forward to working with Jessy Mendiola. I really admire her, mabait siyang tao,” he said.

JM feels blessed with his career, especially now that he topbills the Cinemalaya entry “Intoy Syokoy ng Kalye Marino.”

“Yung career ko ngayon, sobrang binigay out of the blue. I came from nothing, zero. Ngayon po ang daming blessings, so mas pinagbubutihan ko pa.”

Although he feels pressured about duplicating the high ratings of “Angelito’s”  first installment, JM  would rather focus on his job.

“Andoon po yung pressure, pero ngayon I am more focused sa pagcontribute kung ano pa yung ikakaganda ng show. Hindi ko na po problema ang ratings. Basta ako alam ko sa sarili ko na I will do my best and I love my job and I feel very grateful.”

“Angelito: Ang Bagong Yugto,” also stars Kaye Abad, John Prats, Elizabeth Oropesa, Snooky Serna, Sam Concepcion and Al Tantay.
