Katy Perry stuns in Jeremy Scott at the Super Bowl

After Beyoncé, Madonna and Janet Jackson, this year's Super Bowl performer, singer Katy Perry, had a hard act to follow. On Sunday night, the much-watched sporting event regaled viewers with its biggest fashion moment to date. All thanks to the "Roar" singer's favorite designer Jeremy Scott who created the flamboyant costumes for the halftime spectacular.

With four larger-than-life stage outfits for her 12-minute set, Katy Perry stayed true to her reputation for humor and sass.

Perry's wardrobe included a Russian-doll inspired outfit, a vinyl 1950s-inspired pin-up beach ball dress, a fantastically fiery mini-dress with flames jutting from the shoulders and a glittery show-stopping finale gown that the Kansas-born designer created for Moschino.

Along with French ready-to-wear designer Jean-Charles de Castelbajac, Jeremy Scott has spearheaded the "Warhol effect" in fashion. We have Scott to thank for bringing pop culture back to the runway, and liberally filling it with Barbie and fast food-themed fashion.

His fanbase includes Miley Cyrus, Cara Delevingne, Rita Ora, Gwen Stefani and Nicki Minaj.

Although renowned for his acute sense of fun, in recent years Jeremy Scott has also established himself as a serious fashion contender, working with luxury French accessories brand Longchamp and Adidas and being appointed Creative Director of Moschino.

Speaking to Women's Wear Daily about the costumes, Jeremy Scott said "these are ones for the History books".

"We've been working together for so long it's like shared common language, she's very hands on, but at the same time, she bestowed this on me because she knows she can trust me," the designer confided in an interview with Access Hollywood.

Katy Perry's quirky choice of designer sees a return for big fashion names to the Super Bowl, after Beyoncé surprised the world when she performed in leather costumes by little-known couturier Rubin Singer in 2013.

In 2012, Madonna enlisted Parisian fashion house Givenchy by Riccardo Tisci to create elaborate couture creations for her Super Bowl show wardrobe.

The day before the Super Bowl, Perry treated her Twitter followers to pictures of her latest fashion design for NFL -- a purple and black special edition Katy Perry Eyelash sweater dress.
