Kaye Abad never expected she'd fall for Paul Jake Castillo
Kaye Abad admitted she never thought her “very platonic” friendship with Paul Jake Castillo would lead to romance.
“Sobrang bago lang (ng relationship) kasi hindi namin inakala. Sinasabi ko noon na hindi at imposible kasi very platonic yung relationship namin. Magkasundo kami pero pag-iniisip ko na yung romantic side, parang hindi. Actually, nagulat kaming dalawa and kinain ko yung mga sinabi ko na imposibleng kami together,” the Yahoo Celebrity Awards 2014 Best Female Contrabida nominee said.
Kaye relates that she was even trying to get Jake a date.
The good with the bad
But the friendship that blossomed on the set of the 2010 teleserye “Alyna,” where Kaye and Jake first met, turned into something deeper . Kaye knew Jake’s good and bad traits even before they became lovers.
“Nakilala ko yung lahat-lahat, yung bad side niya, walang pagkukunwari. Halos lahat ng naging boyfriends ko (e.g. Chito Miranda and Guji Lorenzana) naging kaibigan ko naman muna bago kami na-develop (as a couple).”
What does Kaye think of the fact that Melissa Ricks, Jake’s ex-girlfriend, was not surprised when she learned of the relationship?
“Honestly, hindi ko nakita na mangyayari. Maybe because we have common friends na sinasabi nila na 'Bakit hindi na lang kayo, kasi click naman kayo together?' Some people misunderstood our friendship because hindi (sila) sanay na may kaibigan ako na opposite sex. Kasi mas close talaga ako sa mga lalaki kaysa sa mga babae. Mas marami akong kaibigan na lalaki.”
Some people think Kaye is more open about her relationship with Jake than the one she had with Guji. But Kaye said she never denied her romance with Guji.
No denial
“When we were asked before, we were just dating then. People assumed na dini-deny ko lang or showbiz answer. So when we finally got together, wala nang nagtanong.”
Because she is known for good girl roles, Kaye was ecstatic when she learned that people liked her portrayal of a cruel stepmom in “Annaliza.”
“Bago ko tanggapin yung role I was hesitant (kung kaya ko) bigyan ng justice. But then nung nagawa ko na yung show, maganda yung feedback ng mga tao. Nakakatuwa kasi effective naman pala.”
She shared that playing a contrabida is very challenging because she has to exert extra effort in looking and acting like a mean person
Kaye is flattered at being nominated in the Yahoo! Celebrity Awards 2014.
“Ang hirap kasi maamo ang role ko tapos kailangan ko magmukhang bata. Mahirap pero naa-adjust ko naman. Towards the end, medyo nadadala ko na mga yung role ko.”
