Kris Lawrence: Marriage first; new baby next

Kris Lawrence just renewed his contract with Universal Records/NPPA Images

If you’re happy with your baby’s mom, who means the world to you,  the next question is, “So, when will you settle down?”

Kris Lawrence knows this question is inevitable, and he has a ready answer.

House requirement

“Once I’m done with my requirements – among them a house,”  he told the press before renewing his contract with Universal Records.

He and Katrina are talking about whether they will sell her house and split the cost in buying or building a new one, or keep the place and buy another home.  Kris wants to keep just one home.

“Mahirap ang palipat-lipat ng bahay.”

The singer-songwriter is also bent on keeping his altar date with Katrina before giving their daughter, Katie, a brother or sister. It will make Katrina even happier because, unlike Kris,  she wants to wait before having another child.

For the love of Katrina

“Ako, gusto ko na magkaroon ng kapatid si Katie. Sabi ni Kat (Katrina), huwag na muna. Binabantayan ko kasi ang age gap (ng mga bata). I want them to be close. I  grew up with my sister. Our age gap is one-and-a-half years. We’re best friends. I think it’s the same story for siblings who are close to each other in terms of age.”

But since he loves Katrina, Kris has adjusted his goals.  This is not the only time the Fil-Am artist has adapted to domestic life in the country.  At Katrina’s prodding, he now turns over all his earnings to her, even if it’s something new for someone like him who grew up in the US.

“Sa Pilipinas, yung lalaki pag kumita, bigay sa asawa. It’s hard for me to swallow because in the States, kanya kanya.”

Money matters

Besides, Katrina has proven herself trustworthy in money matters.

“Marunong siyang humawak ng pera.”

And again, since he loves Katrina that much, he can’t bear to be apart from her and Katie, ever.  He’s willing to relocate to her native Palawan and start a business there if Katrina wants to bid showbiz good-bye someday.  That’s because for Kris, nothing can ever substitute for family togetherness.
But there’s no reason to do that – for now.

Katrina herself has her own taping schedules.  Kris is about to release a new recording, whose nature and title he’s keeping a secret for now.  Everything they do is for Katie’s future.

Pride and joy

The baby is her parents’ pride and joy.  Kris reports that Katie knows how to sing in her own cute way.

“Iba timing niya.  When she hears ‘If you’re happy and you know it, clap your hands,’ she goes, “A, a!” after the line.”

His little princess is also “malikot and talkative.”  Kris can go on and on talking about Katie.

As for her mom, don’t be surprised if Katrina comes up with an album of covers someday. Kris relates that she has recorded 12 revivals with her “cute singing voice” so far.

The happy singing family couldn’t have it any better.
