Lee Byung Hun and Jon Chu talk about Psy
Psy′s influence around the world was reconfirmed in Hong Kong by Jon Chu and Lee Byung Hun.
From December 11-13, Hong Kong hosted CineAsia, the biggest film exhibition in Asia. On the last day an awards ceremony was held, and Lee Byung Hun won the Star of the Year Award at the ceremony.
Lee Byung Hun and director Jon Chu had been in Hong Kong for the event as a part of the 3D videos from G.I. Joe 2 were revealed for the first time at CineAsia.
Jon Chu and Lee Byung Hun, however, despite their own global feats around the world, had high praise to give for another man they called "great." That man was Psy. Everything said about Korea led to talk about the singer.
Lee Byung Hun mentioned that he had met with Psy, an old friend, and soccer player Park Ji Sung in London last month.
Their meeting had been made known through a series of paparazzi photos, in which Lee Byung Hun was shown with Psy. The meeting between the three most popular Koreans in the world was enough to gather global attention.
Lee Byung Hun said in a meeting with press in Hong Kong, "I worked out at a nearby gym when I was in London, and the gym there also played Gangnam Style. I told Psy that he′s really doing a great job."
According to Lee Byung Hun, the gym he went to was very small, but still, it knew what Gangnam Style was.
"Even the trainer knew Gangnam Style well. I asked him whether he knew where Gangnam is," he said.
Jon Chu also had previously met with Psy once.
"I met with Psy in L.A.′s Korea town," he said.
It turned out he had met with Psy while he was directing a documentary of the pop star Justin Bieber titled Justin Bieber: Never Say Never. Through Scooter Braun, who manages both Justin Bieber and Psy, Jon Chu got to make Psy′s acquaintance. He hadn′t known that Psy and Lee Byung Hun were also close.
Jon Chu said, "I went to a karaoke with Psy. I sang, and Psy was in charge of the dance and backup chorus."
He then added that he had been very interested in Korean culture even before he came to meet Psy and Lee Byung Hun.
He said in an interview with enews, "Korea′s pop culture is popular around the world. It′s great. I especially feel it when I see Psy."
As he′s worked with Justin Bieber before, Jon Chu said that it wouldn′t be an impossible thing for him to collaborate with Psy in the future.
Even outside of the CineAsia Awards, Hong Kong itself showed it was riding the wave of Gangnam Style. Many people exercised to Gangnam Style on the streets of Hong Kong, and a giant poster for the single was posted on the outer walls of a record shop in Tsim Sha Tsui. Streets usually full of youths often had Gangnam Style blaring out of their speakers.
Psy′s popularity indeed stretched everywhere across the world.
