'Legends' with Sean Bean to premiere in August

Produced by "Homeland" creator Howard Gordon, the spy drama will make its debut August 20 on TNT.

In "Legends," British actor Sean Bean ("Lord of the Rings," "Game of Thrones") will play a CIA agent accustomed to working under a variety of false identities. A true chameleon, the agent is capable of modifying his personality with each new mission. But as a result of changing his name so often, the character begins to question the nature of his true identity.

After his work on "The X-Files," "Buffy the Vampire Slayer," and the award-winning "24" and "Homeland," producer and screenwriter Howard Gordon drew the inspiration for this latest project from a novel by "The Company" author Robert Littell. "Legends: A Novel of Dissimulation" was published in 2005.

Before airing the first episode of "Legends," TNT will premiere "The Last Ship" on Sunday, June 22. Produced by Michael Bay, this drama will focus on the crew of an American Navy ship, who fight for survival following the outbreak of an epidemic that has decimated the world's population. Eric Dane, who appeared in six seasons of "Grey's Anatomy" in the role of Mark Sloane, will play Captain Tom Chandler, the ship's courageous and authoritarian leader.

On the same date, TNT will air the fourth season premiere of "Falling Skies," which will be joined by Mira Sorvino. TNT has yet to announce season premiere dates for its returning series "Major Crimes," "Rizzoli & Isles," "Perception" and "Franklin & Bash." The premiere date for the new series "Murder in the First" is also unknown.
