Lovi: From one scarefest after another

"Shake Rattle and Roll XIV: Unwanted"

Lovi Poe knows she’s called the “Horror Princess” of showbiz but she’s not complaining.  For one, she has done three horror flicks to her credit this year: “Guni-guni,” “Tiktik: The Aswang Chronicles” and the Metro Manila Film Festival entry “Shake, Rattle and Roll 14: The Invasion.”

“It’s okay. There was a time naman when I did sexy drama. There were moments siguro na nagkakataon na ganito (horror) yung mga ginagawa ko,” Lovi said.

She added, “Nagkakataon lang na sunod-sunod. Pero I don’t mind especially when I do something amazing like this.”

Besides, Lovi makes sure she plays different kinds of characters moviegoers will not get bored watching.

“Mahirap siya. I make sure na I focus sa trabaho na binibigay sa akin, whether paulit-ulit na horror. It’s fine with me kasi iba-iba naman yung story. It’s not all the time na ako yung nananakot. This time, iba naman yung story talaga.”

Among the horror characters Lovi has played are a medical student with a dark past and a pregnant woman haunted by different creatures.

Scaring people vs acting scared

Which is harder – scaring people or acting scared?

“Parehas siyang mahirap kaso mahirap rin mag-act na natatakot ka. Kasi you know that you’re in the set, you know na it’s not real. It’s both hard. May kanya-kanyang factors.”

Lovi feels honored to be part of Regal Film’s franchise “Shake, Rattle and Roll,” which has become a traditional viewing fare for Filipino moviegoers during the holidays.

This is Lovi’s second “Shake, Rattle and Roll.” The first was in the “Christmas Tree” episode of the film’s ninth installment.

“Kahit noong bata pa ako, it’s always a must to watch it (“Shake, Rattle and Roll”).To be part of it feels really good kasi I know I’m part of the tradition,” she said.

Lovi plays opposite Vhong Navarro in the “Unwanted” episode of the movie.

“It’s nice to work with someone na very light, magaan kasama. He always cracks jokes. So it’s really cool. Kasi kapag magaan yung kasama mo, madadala ka rin,” she described her working relationship with Vhong.

Lovi also feels honored to be working with director Chito Roño, who helmed all three episodes of “Shake, Rattle and Roll 14: The Invasion.”

“It’s really good because he knows what he wants. He’s very spontaneous and tells us not to depend on the scripts kasi it can really change. So it’s nice kasi he knows what he’s doing. He’s been here in the industry for a long time na rin. I’m happy kasi lahat naman kami gustong maka-trabaho si direk Chito.”
