Lovi Poe explains daring stage in her life

"Nakakatamad din na magpakita ng skin every time."

Lovi Poe wants to do things other than going sexy, like conquering her fears one by one

Ever wondered why Lovi Poe has become scarce on the cover of men’s magazines and star of steamy movie scenes? It’s not because of her boyfriend, Rocco Nacino.

“Rocco has no say when it comes to my career moves. Sa relationship namin, kung ano ang gusto mong gawin, ikaw na ang bahala. It never reached a point na nagpapaalam kami sa isa’t isa. Ayaw namin mapunta sa point na sinasakal namin ang isa’t isa,” star of Metro Filmfest entry “Shake, Rattle & Roll XV’s” Flight 666 episode says.

Breaking free

So why did she stop wearing those sexy bikinis for pictorials? Why hasn’t she posed as calendar girl for liquor commercials when she has the body to show for it?

“Gusto kong magpahinga sa pagpapasexy. There was a time in my life when I was in a daring stage. Gusto ko mag break free sa mga kung ano-anong bagay. Nakakatamad din na magpakita ng skin every time,” Lovi replies.

This time, she'd rather break free from her fears and try things out of her comfort zone. That’s why she asked Rocco to try the zip line in Tagaytay.

“Takot ako sa heights. So sobrang sigaw ko the first time. Towards the middle, kaya ko pala.”

Zip line adventure

Yes, Lovi conquered her fear of heights, with Rocco right there to hold her shaky hand.

“Kaya malakas ang loob ko,” she admits.

Lovi’s zip line adventure is also her way of testing her limits and quashing self-doubt.

“Yan ang bago kong thing. I have to do something I’m afraid of, something I’m uncomfortable with. That’s where the magic is.”

Round two

Lovi enjoyed the zip line so much, she even asked Rocco for a round two.
“Mataas siya pero hindi mabilis.”

The roller coaster is a different story for Lovi though. She still has to conquer her fear of trying it because unlike the zip line, the roller coaster moves fast and reaches stratospheric heights.

At least, Lovi can say, “Hindi na ako takot sa heights.”

Lovi has conquered her fear of riding airplanes, something which can’t be said of her late dad, King of Philippine Movies Fernando Poe Jr., who had a phobia for flying.

Therapeutic

The actress had to recall that fear and scream at the top of her voice when she played a flight attendant who wrestles with a monster in Flight 666.

“Effort talaga kasi chill ako magsalita. Pero kailangan sumigaw.”

Like others who feel good after a good scream, Lovi found the act therapeutic.

“Doon ko na-rerelease ang hindi ko nailalabas in real life.”

Screaming and running

But all that screaming and running can get taxing, even for someone as young and fast-footed as Lovi.

“Gusto ko ako naman ang nananakot sa susunod. Lagi na lang ako ang takot.”

Shake, Rattle & Roll XV, an entry to the 2014 Metro Manila Filmfest. also stars Dennis Trillo, JC de Vera, Carla Abellana, Erich Gonzales and Matteo Guidicelli. The horror anthology opens Christmas day, December 25, in theaters nationwide.
