Low-cost airline sells flights in snack vending machines

In dedicated vending machines in Paris, Transavia is selling a bag of chips with a voucher for a one-way flight to Barcelona

For Parisians, buying a plane ticket to Barcelona is as easy and fun as picking up a bag of chips or candy. This is the message of a new campaign launched Tuesday by Transavia, the low-cost subsidiary of KLM-Air France.

It's an advertising campaign that's sure to grab the attention of Parisians on the go. From March 24, Transavia will turn snack vending machines in train stations and corner markets into low-cost plane ticket distributors.

Each destination has been assigned a different snack item. Transavia's sesame-flavored chips, priced at €35 (around $38), come with a ticket to Barcelona. A granola bar priced at €40 (around $44) gets you a flight to Dublin, while a bag of candy for €35 (around $38) is bundled with a ticket to Lisbon.

Each snack includes a voucher code for a one-way flight from Paris to the indicated destination between June 1 and October 24, with no additional fees. To redeem a voucher, users simply enter the code located inside the packaging at www.snackholidays.com.

Of course, most travelers will need to book a return flight, whether with Transavia or a different airline.

These unique vending machines are located in Paris at the Montparnasse train station and in the Carrefour City mini-supermarkets at Saint-Lazare, Malakoff and Rue Amelot.

The operation, promoted via the hashtag #SnackHolidays, is set to take place through March 31.
