It was the New Year, it was a special issue, she wanted something new to offer fans.
Whatever the reason—and all of the above were valid—Marian Rivera finally agreed to grace the cover of the January 2013 issue of FHM Magazine.
It would be a first for both Marian and FHM, which first named the Kapuso actress the Sexiest Woman in the World in 2008.
What took Marian so long
So what took her so long to agree to a cover considering her name has always been Top Five in the magazine’s sexiest list since she occupied the top spot?
“Siguro it’s about time din na may bagong i-offer sa mga nagmamahal sa akin ng matagal na nilang hinihiling… Masasabi ko na this time buo na ang loob ko,” she told the magazine.
Timing was also key.
“This time kasi nag-swak na ang gusto kong mangyari sa gusto [ng FHM] mangyari… [That] this would be a special issue, that it would be different, mas maraming concepts sa loob, mas makabuluhan at pinaghandaang mabuti… so everything fell into place,” Marian said, who graces the magazine’s special 150th issue.

More beauty than sex
Inside, the star poses for a 23-page feature, shot by famed photographer Marc Nicdao. It shows her in bikinis, a one-piece swimwear and provocative evening wear, but the photos are more suggestive than bold.
What the feature brings to light is Marian’s luminous beauty, prompting the interviewer to tell her, “After so long, we finally have proof you look like who you were named after—the mother of God.”
The relatively demure feature also led FHM to try and bait the actress into considering a second cover story, only “more daring.”
“Ha ha ha, tumawa talaga ako! Ha ha ha!” the actress responded. “I’m not closing any doors or anything kasi hindi naman bago sa akin doing covers for magazines. I also wear bathing suits in some of those shoots. It’s just that iba lang talaga ang demands on me doing a men’s magazine kaysa sa women’s magazines.”
