Megan Young in 'network hopping'

Megan Young must be the envy of her fellow -stars.  Other stars her age are tied to a network but she can swing from one station to the other  – ABS-CBN and TV5 – to be exact, without creating a ruckus. She also worked with GMA 7 during her StarStruck days.

“Ang baseline doon, hindi ako nakatali sa isang network,” she said.  “It’s really cool.”

Megan plays a villain in TV5’s “Misibis Bay” and has a management contract with ABS-CBN’s Star Magic.  Since she has no network contract with ABS, she can star in shows with other networks.

That privilege is something usually reserved for veteran stars. But Megan, 22,  is enjoying it to the hilt.

“Nakakatuwa,” she shares. “Ang dami kong nagagawa. Ang dami  kong name-meet. Hindi ako naka-stand by lang.  At least,  tuloy tuloy trabaho.”

All she has to do, says Megan, is  inform the network concerned about her project with another station, and that’s it. She can go network hopping.

Work and studies

As if that’s not enough, Megan balances her time between work and studies.  The senior film student at the College of St. Benilde brought her notebooks and other school materials to this luxury island resort, where they shot “Misibis Bay” for two weeks.

“We’re already taking up major subjects. I’m so busy I haven’t seen my high school friends for so long! Medyo mahirap na kasi major subjects na kami.”

To make the most of her time, Megan works on school requirements during taping breaks. She’s taking only a few subjects so she can work and study at the same time while doing her best in school and showbiz.

Not dating

The hectic pace is one of the reasons why Megan is taking it easy in the love deparment.  Three years after she and her non-showbiz boyfriend, Nico Salva broke up, Megan has to fall in love again.  She’s not even going out on dates.

“Hindi naman ako na-trauma,” Megan explains. “Ayoko lang na parang kung sino ang dumating, yon na agad ang boyfriend  ko. I’m just going with the flow. Kung may dumating, tingnan  natin if it will work out. Hindi ako naghahanap. Mali naman na yung girl ang magsasabing ‘Tara, boyfriend na kita!”

Besides, Megan is having so much fun at work and in school, she can’t ask for anything more.

She has bonded with co-star Ritz Azul, with whom Megan regularly works out in the gym.  Megan is not afraid to be typecast as a villain

“Okay lang ma-typecast ako as contrabida, kesa naman lagi kang umiiyak kasi sinasabunatan ka, sinasaktan ka. Okay lang na  ako na lang gagawa non.”

She’s not afraid viewers will take this against her since Megan is confident they are smart enough to tell what is for real and what’s only for reel.

“Buti na lang I am the person people like to hate sa screen lang. Nakikita na ng mga tao ang difference.  Smart na sila ngayon.”
