Melissa doesn’t want Jake to be her friend

Several months after they split up, Melissa Ricks admits she and Jake Cuenca are civil with each other.  Friendship is another thing, though.

“It’s better na hindi na lang kami maging friends. Mas tahimik, it’s better that way. At least ngayon, civil kami,” she said at the press conference of “Walang Hanggan” on Tuesday, January 10.

Melissa and Jake have been together for almost two years but split up last June 2011. According to Melissa, Jake was “her first serious boyfriend and first major heartbreak.”

What’s the status of their relationship?

“Wala. Ex-boyfriend, ex-girlfriend, ganoon lang,” Melissa replied.

Melissa is still mum about why they broke up.

“Like I said, hindi ko gustong manira ng tao. Lahat po ng tao nagkakamali, lahat minsan hindi naiisip yung ginagawa nila, pero ganun po talaga ang buhay. Just forgive and forget,” Melissa said.

In their separate interviews, Jake apologized  to Melissa and she in turn said that she is asking for respect. The press then asked Melissa what she thinks of Jake’s apology.

“You can say sorry a thousand times and it can mean nothing. You can say sorry once and it can mean everything. So, sana dumating yung point na maayos ang lahat,” she answered.

Their breakup had been hard for Melissa, but the “Nasaan Ka Elisa” star said that she has moved on, even if it’s not easy.

“It was my first major heartbreak, so syempre hindi madali yung mga na-experience ko. I got over that point na. It took me a long time, several months to be okay. But I can say na I’m okay now,” Melissa explained.

Inappropriate

Melissa and Jake celebrated their birthday on “ASAP Rocks” and had separate production numbers on Sunday, January 8. Some of the hosts teased them on stage . They were asked to give each other a message and a kiss,  which Melissa found “inappropriate.”

Melissa admitted crying over this and said  she was not informed about the set-up.

“Honestly, nasaktan lang ako na it’s my birthday and sana hindi na lang nila pinush na ganoon. Kasi they didn’t tell me eh,” Melissa admitted.

Melissa added that she  greeted Jake at the rehearsal.  She also  defended Jake, saying that he was also not aware of the set-up.

“Alam mo yun, don’t push it na mang-aasar pa. Ang daming air time na ginamit. I’m not mad at Jake. Wala syang kinalaman doon. I just think it was inappropriate for my birthday,” she said.

Melissa revealed that all is well by now and that the production staff has apologized.

Antagonist role

Melissa’s follow-up to her hit drama series “Nasaan Ka Elisa” is the new primetime drama “Walang Hanggan, ”where she plays an antagonist role:  Helen Gamboa’s liberated and spoiled granddaughter.

“Dahil sa `Nasaan Ka Elisa’ siguro nakita nila yung potential ko sa pagiging isang contrabida and medyo sensual na tao,” Melissa declared.

Melissa shed her teenybopper image  in “Nasaan Ka Elisa” and shared she that enjoys doing antagonist roles.

“Bilang bata pa si Julia (Montes), medyo yung hindi pa kaya ni Julia , ako po yung gagawa. Yung mga scenes ko po with Coco (Martin), kinakabahan po ako hindi lang dahil sa magaling sya, pero dahil inaakit ko sya palagi. Mahirap,” she said in jest.

“Walang Hanggan,” which will air starting Monday, Jan. 16 on ABS-CBN’s Primetime Bida, also stars Susan Roces, Helen Gamboa, Richard Gomez, Dawn Zulueta, Eddie Gutierrez, Rita Avila, PauloAvelino and Joem Bascon.
