Melissa McCarthy lands deal for new TV comedy

Melissa McCarthy

Melissa McCarthy is returning to the small screen after having landed a deal for a show about a group of struggling children’s television writers.

Tentatively named “Friends With Melissa,” the show will air on the US network TV Land, reports Variety.

Both McCarthy and her husband Ben Falcone will serve as executive directors and McCarthy will make an appearance on the pilot.

The show will follow the lives of struggling comedy writers as they jealously watch their colleagues rise to fame, penning scripts for blockbuster comedies and winning Oscars.

The series is inspired by the real experiences of show writers Hugh Davidson, Larry Dorf and Rachel Ramras.

Though McCarthy is now a certifiable movie star, TV audiences know her from her role as Sookie on “The Gilmore Girls.”
