Milan Design Week: Johan Lindstén: 'hopefully new designs and technology can bring down boundaries'

From April 14-19, the Salone Satellite, the part of the Milan Furniture Fair dedicated to young designers, will celebrate its 18th year. On the occasion Swedish designer Johan Lindstén looks back at his first experience at the event and current state of design.

When did you first participate in the show? What object or collection was presented?
I exhibited the first time in 2011; I presented lamps and a chair. For this I received an award for one of the best products at Salone Satellite. And two products were in production a year later.

How have your creations evolved since then?
I like to think it is still the same unique and distinguished design that creates interest with its unexpected details.

How do you see the world of design today?
In all civilizations and epochs, mankind has always strived to create, develop, design and make our surroundings beautiful. This will continue and hopefully new designs and technology can bring down boundaries and unite.

What is your favorite memory associated with the Milan fair?
When my lamp Meltdown was presented for Cappellini in 2013. Hundreds of lamps were placed in the stand, creating an overwhelmingly beautiful scene.
