Miss Earth 2014: Miss Japan Reina Nagata
What is your environmental advocacy and why did you choose this?
I chose the problem of garbage. As our lifestyle becomes more comfortable, the cities beautiful, and material things plentiful, the problem with garbage worsens, too.
In Japan, for instance, there's not enough space to deal with garbage for the next ten years. I think it's necessary to create a lifestyle that doesn't produce garbage for both Japan and the rest of the world.
What tip can you share to promote this year's theme, Eco Tourism?
For eco tourism to be possible, I think all societies must be at peace. I think that the Atomic Bomb Dome in Hiroshima has been recognized as a World Heritage Site because there was a strong desire for peace. Thanks to prevailing peace, we’re able to travel, play sports, and enjoy cuisine. I think the desire for peace and protecting the environment will support eco tourism.
