Alanis Morissette is glad she is no longer trapped in "swampy" postpartum depression.
The songstress gave birth to son Ever Imre in 2010 on Christmas Day.
Alanis found it hard to cope with her new role as a mother following the arrival of her first child.
“I just thought it was a swampy chapter, if I soldiered it out, that it would go away,” she confessed to ET Canada.
Alanis is no stranger to personal struggles, having battled bulimia and anorexia as a teenager. In opening up about her post-baby blues, she hopes to help other mothers who are also dealing with it.
“I think if there is any goal in me talking about it, it would be to eradicate the shame around it,” she explained. “It’s just what happens sometimes and, for me, I just waited way too long to reach out for help.”
The Canadian singer-songwriter is married to Ever Imre’s father, rapper Mario “Souleye” Treadway. The couple wed in May 2010.© Cover Media
