The most popular US national parks by Facebook check-ins

The US national park that people like to brag about visiting the most is the Grand Canyon. That’s according to the number crunchers over at Facebook, who put together a list of the most popular Facebook check-ins for US national parks in 2013.

After the Grand Canyon, Yosemite and Yellowstone round out the top three parks for Facebook check-ins -- or the digital version of 'Wish you were here' postcards.

Data also showed that 12 percent of visitors hail from countries outside the US. The top foreign visitors are the Brits, followed by Germans, Canadians, Australians and the French.

Residents of Washington DC, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, San Diego and Denver, meanwhile, turned out to be the most frequent visitor of US national parks.

Another interesting trend that emerged from the data is that of the people who checked into a national park in 2013, nine percent visited more than one park in the same year.

Facebook analysts also tracked down the user who checked in to the most national parks on Facebook last year.

During a solo two-month summer road trip last year, Chinese student Jiaji Liu of Rhode Island visited 38 national parks and shared 28 of those visits on Facebook.

Here are the top 10 US national parks in terms of Facebook check-ins:
