Multi-masking: when it comes to face masks, more is more

You know all about multitasking, but are you up to date when it comes to multi-masking?

That's right -- gone are the days when it was acceptable to smear a sweet-smelling concoction all over your face, put your feet up in front of Netflix and let Mother Science weave its beautiful magic on your pores. These days it's all about combining different scrubs, gels and creams, depending on what's going on in each of your facial zones.

For example, you might be in possession of an oily T-zone but have chafed skin on your cheeks, or a particularly sensitive or puffy eye area. Multi-masking allows you to create one masterfully tailored mask from several lesser masks to suit your skin's individual needs.

The trend has taken root on Instagram, where users have been mixing up their masks, to clown-like but beneficial effect, dividing their skincare products over two or three separate zones, displaying the results with the hashtag #multimasking.

If you're interested in testing it out for yourself then beauty blogger Renee Clementine suggests choosing masks that require a similar amount of time on the skin, as trying to wash your nose without getting water on your chin could prove tricky. She also recommends opting for masks that are removed the same way, for similar reasons.

Skincare brand Boscia is one step ahead, offering a combination of four peel-off masks designed exactly for the purpose of multi-masking ($33.60). But there's no reason why you can't go ahead and get creative by using what you already have in your bathroom cabinet. Now, anyone for Netflix?
