NHK Announces It Will Not Invite Korean Singers to This Year′s ′Red & White Song Battle′

NHK′s Red & White Song Battle, one of the biggest year-end song festivals in Japan, made the official announcement that there will be no Korean singers in its lineup this year.

According to Nikkan Sports on November 26, NHK′s Red & White Song Battle announced just before it confirmed its final lineup that it will not be featuring any Korean singers this year.

The article reported, "It has been decided that TVXQ, Girls′ Generation and Kara, groups which appeared last year, will not be appearing this year. The groups were successful in Japan this year on the K-Pop boom, but they will not be featured due to public opinion regarding the Dokdo issues."

Channels and officials continue to tread carefully around Korean singer issues, as the strife deepens between Korea and Japan on the possession of Dokdo.

TVXQ is looking to hold its first five-dome tour in the country, and Kara also plans to perform at the Tokyo Dome early next year. Other singers have also been successful in Japan this year, but the press is still showing a cold attitude toward such news.

The Best Hit Song Festival and the FNS Song Festival are also expected to refuse to invite Korean singers to sing. The lineup for the FNS Song Festival also does not contain any Korean singers up to now.
