Nicolo Donato is making a film about Jews escaping Nazi-occupied Denmark

Nicolo Donato

The Danish film director is making a feature that hits close to home.

Donato's "Fuglene Over Sundet" is based on actual events, following the attempt of Danish Jews to escape Nazi-occupied Denmark. It is an especially personal subject for Donato, as he is the grandchild of one of the characters in the film.

"Fuglene Over Sundet" will mark Donato's second film, after his debut in 2009 with "Brotherhood", which won the Golden Marc'Aurelio Jury Award for Best Film at the International Rome Film Festival.

The screenplay of "Fuglene Over Sundet" was written by Donato and Per Daumiller, and the film is slated for release in November 2016.
