Nikki Gil engaged to the man of her prayers: ‘God picked up the broken pieces of me'
After weeks of speculations, Nikki Gil finally revealed that she is already engaged to businessman BJ Albert.
“I really want to be discreet about it, but since it’s out anyway and I’m confirming it. And yes, I got engaged last year,” Nikki told ABS-CBN’s MJ Felipe in an interview on Friday, February 6.
Many were surprised about Nikki’s engagement as she never talked about her boyfriend. Nikki has become more private and low-profile with her love life since her split with ex-boyfriend Billy Crawford.
“I’ve tried my best and I want to protect his privacy and family’s privacy kasi he’s not naman from the industry. His name is BJ,” she said.
Met through a common friend
Nikki and BJ met in 2013 through a common friend as they both studied in Ateneo de Manila University. They became a couple early 2014.
“Yung common friend namin ang nagset-up sa amin kasi akala niya magkakilala na kami. We have common friends and same church friends and went to Ateneo together,” she said.
How he popped the question
BJ proposed to Nikki on December 13, 2014, where he set up a fake “corporate event.” He asked for the permission of Nikki’s parents first before asking for her hand.
“May pakulo na may corporate event ako. Pagdating doon, he asked. It was just the two of us. I said yes. Nung nag-sink in na sa akin, all of my friends and family came out,” she said.
While Nikki was surprised of the proposal, she shared that they had actually been talking about marriage already even before they got engaged.
“Hindi naman siya gulatan portion. It just dawned on me how good God is to me, how He picked me up, picked up the broken pieces of me and put it together and rewarded me with the man of my prayers,” she said.
Man of her prayers
Nikki feels grateful to God for answering her prayers and for guiding her.
“I’m very happy. God really has how own timetable, own timeline, meron talaga Siyang kwento na ginawa for me. I’m just happy that I listened and it came to pass,” she said.
While some think that their engagement came too soon, Nikki said that she is already sure that BJ is the one God reserved for her. Nikki also related that they share the same values and principles.
“Wala sa number of years iyan eh. I would have wanted na that kind of story na mahaba yung history ninyo, but it doesn’t always follow, na porke’t matagal kayo it will last. For me, I just know what I have been praying for. I know that God has reserved for me what He thinks is best for me. I know na pareho kami ng prinsipyo ng values. If I see myself spending myself with this person,” she said.
Nikki has not yet revealed when they are planning to get married. For now, she is just so happy to be engaged with the love of her life.
“Now, I’m enjoying this stage. I’m always the kind of girl naman na I date with marriage in the future. I don’t date kung alam kong maglalaro lang. it didn’t take much adjusting, I’m just more happy now. Kasi may definite na patutunguhan. I am more excited about the life after wedding. I am more excited to start the rest of my life,” she said.
