Although many believe she already got it in the bag, Nora Aunor downplayed the possibility of her winning the Best Actress award in the upcoming Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) this December 25.

The Superstar is part of the MMFF entry “Thy Womb,” which competed at the Venice International Film Festival this year. And while Nora failed to win best actress plum during the competition, she received a special prize for work in the film from the Premio Della Critica Indipendente, a jury of Italian film critics independent from the film festival.

“Tingnan na lang natin (kung mananalo). Maraming magagaling,” the actress told members of the press during TV5’s Christmas party for the press on Wednesday, December 5.

When asked if she feels she should no longer be part of local acting competitions due to her stature in the entertainment industry, Nora said: “Hindi naman. Hindi naman pwede pumili. Kung yun ang gusto ng mga tao, bakit kailangang hindian, di ba?”

Nora added she’s happy to be part of the MMFF this year. Besides “Thy Womb,” she’s also part of “El Presidente.”

Other actresses who could be in the running for the award also mused about their chances of taking home the award.

In a recent press conference, Angelica Panganiban and Angel Locsin of the MMFF entry “One More Try” both said they’re hoping to award for their performance.

Judy Ann Santos of “Si Agimat, Si Enteng, At Si Ako” said she isn’t even expecting to be nominated.

Return to singing

Meanwhile, Nora plans to follow through her stellar 2012 by returning to her first love: singing.

“Magco-concert na ako sa May 21. Itutuloy ko na yun. Hindi pwedeng hindi,” the Superstar said.

Nora added she’s planning to return to Boston January of next year to correct her problems with her voice.

“Paano ka magco-concert kung wala kang boses?” she quipped. “(Basta) Alam kong gagawin ko yun (concert) sa isang taon.”

She will also be part of TV5’s upcoming soap opera “Never Say Goodbye,” which will also star the network’s new young stars Vin Abrenica and Sophie Albert.  Alice Dixson, Cesar Montano, and Gardo Versoza will also be part of the show.

“Masaya naman ako at first time akong makakasama sa mahabang (series for TV5),” she said. Nora led the TV5 mini-series “Sa Ngalan Ng Ina” in 2011. She also took part in the fantasy series “Enchanted Garden.”

What made her say yes to the new TV5 project?

“Wala naman akong hinihindian na teleserye o ano man,” Nora explained.
