OMG! Exclusive - It’s a Blue world after all
A whole crowd chased them down the road after their concert in Singapore. They had to get police assistance in Italy because the crowd became too hot to handle.
And yet in Manila, where the band has performed twice, Blue – composed of Duncan James, Antony Costa, Simon Webbe and Lee Ryan – showed their appreciation in a more reined-in way. Fans sang along to “One Love,” “Sorry Seems to be the Hardest Word” and other hits by singing or humming along. Others simply swayed to the quartet’s mellow music.
To this day, memories of that sold-out Big Dome concert still overwhelm the band.
“The Manila audience was fantastic. They sang along with the words,” they told Yahoo! Phlippines OMG! in a phone interview.
Two successful shows deserve another. So Blue is coming back for the third time to perform in “The Greatest Hits Tour with Blue, Jeff Timmons of 98 Degrees and A1”on Saturday, Feb. 25 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
This time, the guys are more mature, starting with the way they look. The body-hugging t-shirts are gone. They have given way to suits which the band wears for pictorials that say it loud and clear: we have kissed our boy band days good-bye.
“We’re men now. We’ve re-invented ourselves and matured as artists. We now have more creative control.”
The guys are also happy about a new album which they recorded after they got back together as a band last year.
“It’s really nice to come back together again. It’s nice going back to the studio again to write,” they chorus.
It took them some time to get their act together again, but the band knows it was worth the wait.
“This is the amount of time we need to put our best in the album,” the band members reveal. “We don’t want to rush anything for you guys so you can enjoy (our music). It’s been a long time since you guys have seen us.”
The guys promise to make up for their absence by singing the good old songs the crowd wants to hear.
“We will have a trip down memory lane. We’ve always had the music that could relate to people all around the world. The good thing about music is it unites people. We’re very blessed.”
The Blue boys, er men are raring to share the blessing of music again – this time as more seasoned musicians who have worked with the best, traveled the world and discovered that “music is the great healer.”
And it doesn’t matter that they’re no longer the boy band they used to be. They’re all grown-up – as individuals and as a band.
This, Blue wants to prove the third time around to Filipino fans. And this, the band’s Filipino fans will see for themselves when the group comes over with their feel-good sound and nostalgic ballads dripping with lyrics about love and longing.
