One third of UK cat owners Skype with their pet

Over one third of UK cat owners Skype or FaceTime their pet, with men particularly keen to speak to their feline friends over the phone, it has been revealed.

A poll for the greetings card company Hallmark showed that 23 percent of British men spent time talking to their cat on the phone, a greater percentage than women cat owners.

Even more surprisingly (or perhaps not), 50 percent of Brits say they'd rather spend time with their cat than with another human being.

And it seems that cats are living it up in the UK, with 20 percent of the nation's kitties being taken on family holidays and 15 percent being served specially made meals on a daily basis.

Thirty percent of women and almost 18 percent of men buy their cat a birthday card and/or present, and nearly 37 percent of men have tried to teach their cat to perform tricks and stunts.

Hallmark conducted the poll of over 1,000 cat owners to mark the launch of its new Little Meow greetings card range.

However, the UK isn't the only cat-mad country -- according to the results of a survey by SquareTrade revealed last week, 18 percent of US animal owners have spoken to a pet on Skype, FaceTime or another online video chatting software, and 17 percent have made a social media account for a pet.
