PC download charts: 'Terraria,' 'King's Quest,' 'The Hole Story'
A big update for "Terraria" sparks a new wave of retail activity, fans of the revered "King's Quest" franchise get ready for its return, and "The Hole Story" sends players on a trip through time.
A host of new and improved features, including a more streamlined multiplayer experience, arrived in update 1.3 for "Terraria."
The freeform game combines crafting and exploration elements from "Minecraft" with the combat and monster-driven impetus of a classic "Metroid" title and has retained a dedicated community since 2011, with version 1.2 having been released in October of 2013.
For fans of the fondly remembered "King's Quest" adventure series, it's been 17 years since the last official entry.
In advance of a late July release, not just on Windows PCs but also PlayStation and Xbox consoles, pre-orders for fantasy adventure game "King's Quest: The Complete Collection" went live on June 30 and the five-episode compendium is already top of GameStop's chart.
On Itchio, "The Hole Story," a successful summer camp project that was released mid-June, is found in the top three.
The inventive archaeological tale, whose accidental time-traveler heroine Wendy is armed only with a spade and her quick wits, had won first prize at the Girls Make Games demo day in 2014, then receiving $30,000 in crowdsourced Kickstarter funds.
The next Girls Make Games demo day takes place July 19, 2015, at the Computer History Museum in Mountain View, California.
