Piolo not competing with Jericho

Piolo Pascual dispelled talks that he and “Dahil sa Pag-ibig” co-star Jericho Rosales are competing with each other.

“Never kaming nagpaligsahan or nagkumpetensya sa kahit anong bagay. And bilang magkapatid (in the industry), sa 10 years namin sa industriya, pangit naman siguro na ngayon pa kami makikipagkumpetensya sa isa’t isa,” Piolo said in an interview at the set visit in Antipolo City on Friday, March 9.

Although they worked together in a sitcom and in “ASAP Rocks,”  it is the first time Piolo is working with Jericho in a TV drama, where they have Christopher de Leon, Cristine Reyes and Maricar Reyes as co-stars.

"Sobra akong namamangha, na-overwhelm. I never thought working with Echo (Jericho)would become a reality. Sa soap opera hindi pa kami nagkaka-work together, we've always wanted to work with each other. So bilang kapatid, masaya ako kasi kami yung magkasama sa napakalaking proyektong ito,” Piolo said.

He plays Alfred Valderama, a priest  torn between love and his vocation, while Jericho goes off-beat  as Oliver Falcon.

Piolo admits he finds Jericho’s role “very challenging.” But Piolo loves his character since he is not a typical priest here.

“Ang ganda paglaruan (ng role ni Jericho). Kasi ang role ko bilang pari, iyak ka na lang, mabait ka lang di ba? Pero siyempre, natuwa naman ako sa creative team dahil ginawa nilang maganda ang character ko. Pero yung role ni Echo, I find it really very nice. Hindi naman sa hindi ko gusto ang role ko, I love my role,” Piolo relates.

He describes the struggle his character went through.

“It’s hard especially if there’s a human desire to fall in love with somebody na taliwas sa vocation. It’s really hard, it’s gonna be my biggest hurdle as a character.”

Entering priesthood

Did Piolo ever think of entering priesthood?

"I really wanted to be a priest. Nung nag-apply ako sa UST, sabi ko pag hindi ako pumasa, seminary ako. E pumasa ako,” he replied.

Will his team-up with Cristine make her boyfriend, Rayver Cruz, jealous?

“Hindi naman siguro. Makikita mo dito yung pagmature niya as an actress, so we’re all rooting for her. tuwing ka-eksena ko siya, nasha-shock ako kasi andoon talaga,” Piolo said.

"Dahil sa Pag-ibig" airs in ABS-CBN's Primetime Bida after "Walang Hanggan."
