The Plaza hotel gets its own board game

Iconic New York landmark The Plaza has teamed up with the makers of the world’s best-selling board game to create its own version of the fast-dealing property trading game: Plaza-opoly.

For hotel lovers and loyal guests with fond, sentimental memories tied to the New York institution, The Plaza has created a Monopoly-inspired game that will debut at The Plaza Boutique later this month, reports ABC News.

Instead of Atlantic Avenue and Park Place, players try to acquire properties like The Champagne Bar, The Fitzgerald Suite or The Grand Ballroom.

And instead of being sent to jail, players are sent to ‘Hotel Security.’

Over its 100-year history, the landmark hotel at Fifth Avenue and Central Park has played major roles in American culture, be it as the preferred lodging for writer F. Scott Fitzgerald and his wife Zelda and a key setting in “The Great Gatsby.”

The Plaza is also the setting for Kay Thompson’s children’s book series Eloise, about a little girl who lives at the hotel.

And in popular culture, the hotel has been featured in films like "Home Alone 2," "Funny Girl," "Sleepless in Seattle," "Scent of a Woman," and most recently "American Hustle."
