The Q50 gets infinitely more fashionable

The luxury arm of the Nissan car company, Infiniti, is known for its build quality and attention to detail but not necessarily for its sense of style. However, all of that could be about to change thanks to a collaboration with US fashion designers Zac Posen and Thom Browne.

Each starting with a standard Infiniti Q50 luxury sedan, both designers have brought their unique sense of style to the car’s interior and exterior while attempting to preserve Infiniti’s own philosophy of security and confidence.

And in the case of the Thom Browne edition, this manifests itself in a chrome, almost reflective, exterior paint finish. Running around the door sills and throughout the black leather interior are the designer’s trademark red, white and blue stripes and a sterling silver ring that tops the gearshift. But the makeover doesn’t stop there; no outfit is complete without matching accessories so inside the trunk is a set of matching luggage. Finishing the look is a solid silver credit and business card case. 

Of his car, Browne said: "I went into this project almost as if I was designing a bespoke suit. Everything is made-to-measure, from selecting the materials and colors, to tailoring the upholstery to fit the curves and lines of the interior, and also making sure that the hallmarks of my design aesthetic are still reflected throughout."

From the outside at least, Zac Posen’s Infiniti Q50 is a little more understated with a graduated grey, flowing paint finish meant to represent the back of a silk gown. However, step inside and occupants are greeted with a sea of opulent red, what Posen himself calls the “red carpet interior.” To create the effect, Posen has used differently textured graduated tones of red leather plus shagreen to draw attention to and add further detail and contrast to the door handles and gear stick.

Now that the creations are complete, the cars will be offered for sale through website for $75,000 each on December 12 and a proportion of the proceeds from both sales will be donated to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
