“It’s a show.”

This is what actor and Bench endorser Richard Gomez thinks of the apparel brand’s controversial fashion show, “The Naked Truth.”

Richard sees nothing wrong with the concept and numbers in the show because he says these are just make believe.

“It’s a circus”

“Bench fashion show is a show. Wala namang totoo doon, kundi yung mga taong naglalakad. Lahat ng ito ay kathang-isip,” Richard said at the press conference of the Cinemalaya entry “The Janitor,” which will be distributed by Star Cinema.

But Senator Pia Cayetano, former Gabriela representative Liza Maza and the Philippine Commission on Women disagree. They expressed disappointment over the show, especially Coco Martin’s “The Animal Within Me” segment, where he walked with a female model strapped in a leash.

“It’s a circus. Huwag na natin pansinin yung mga iyon. Sana ito na yung end ng issue. Bench is a good brand, it helps a lot of people. It’s one of the biggest in the fashion industry,” Richard added.

He believes some organizations are just exploiting the issue to boost their visibility.

Election-related?

“This is just my opinion, alam naman natin na malapit na yung election, so yung mga party-list groups, sila yung mga maiingay na naghahanap lang ng issue. Ganoon lang kasimple iyon.”

He added, “Maraming nakikisawsaw, hindi lang yung Gabriela."

Bench and Coco already apologized for offending some people. Bench’Chairman Ben Chan also issued an apology to Coco for “involving him in the controversial scene.”

Coco, who said he had no part in conceptualizing the show, vowed never to involve himself in such sensitive acts again.

Crime and corruption

“Walang dapat mag-sorry. Maraming mga importante bagay na dapat bigyan ng focus. Dito ini-entertain nila tayo, pinapakita what’s in for the next season, iyon lang iyon,” Richard said.

He added that there are more important issues to focus on, such as crime and corruption, which “The Janitor” tackles.

Richard expects a lot of reactions from policemen after the seeing the movie because the scenes are true to life.

“Marami kasi totoo naman. Ito nangyayari sa totoong buhay, bakit hindi n’yo bigyan ng pansin? Buhay ang pinapatay dito.”

Good words for Dennis Trillo

Richard has good words for his co-actors, especially Dennis Trillo.

“Masarap katrabaho si Dennis, kasi mabait siya, binibigay niya yung demands ng character niya, it’s nice to work with Dennis. Eventually mawawala din yung intimidation na iyon (nila sa akin). Natatawa lang ako kapag sinasabi nila iyon. Dahil siguro malaki akong tao, akala nila suplado ako, pero after a while mawawala na iyon.”

"The Janitor," which opens on Wednesday, October 8 in cinemas nationwide, also stars  Nicco Manalo, Dante Rivero, Irma Adlawan, LJ Reyes and others.
