Ridley Scott to team with HBO for series set in ancient Egypt
Continuing his expansion into the world of television, the British filmmaker behind "Gladiator" and "Prometheus" will produce and direct the forthcoming HBO series "Pharaoh," which will combine history and sci-fi, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
After serving as a producer for the series "The Good Wife" and the TV adaptations of Ken Follett's novels "The Pillars of the Earth" and "World Without End," Ridley Scott is teaming up with the prestigious cable network for a drama set in ancient Egypt.
The filmmaker will direct and produce the series, which will explore the theory that the birth and the rise of the ancient civilization is owed to a visit by aliens.
"Pharaoh" will be developed by David Schulner, a producer and writer who frequently collaborates with NBC, including recently for the series "Dracula," "Ironside" and "Do No Harm." He is currently working on an adaptation of the sci-fi comic book "Clone" with the help of "The Walking Dead" author Robert Kirkman.
