Rockfest showcases all generations of Pinoy Rock

Mark your calendars: Friday the 14th of October, 2011.  The SM Mall of Asia concert grounds will be rocked to its very reclaimed foundations as it hosts the Tanduay Rhum Rockfest: Year 5.

The event promises to be a showcase of 30 of the most popular bands from all generations of Pinoy rock history.

Headlining the show is the Tanduay First Five bands: Wolfgang, Parokya ni Edgar, Kamikazee, Sandwich and Chicosci.

Then, there’s the “old guards of rock”—Sampaguita, Introvoys' Paco Arespacochaga, P.O.T., Color It Red, the Youth, Razorback, Tropical Depression, the Dawn and a newly-reunited Hungry Young Poets—joined by the scene's current torchbearers such as Hilera, Franco, Urbandub, Moonstar88, Typecast, rapper Gloc9 and Ebe Dancel in his first big concert appearance since the release of his new solo album.

The concert organizers also promise a surprise appearance by a “Pinoy rock icon,” which should keep the rock concertgoers on their toes.

Other than such potential surprises, Sandwich's Raimund Marasigan promises a kick-ass production setup for this year.

“Magandang-magandang stage (an awesome stage), the best sound systems, a new concept in videos,” said the rock vet. “Hindi ito mukhang noontime show.  Rock show ito, at excited na kaming mga musikong tumugtog.”

Did Marasigan just make a dig at local pop culture?

“I'm just saying it's going to be a rock show,” Marasigan emphatically declared.  “There's nothing wrong with a noontime show, but we're making it more as a rock show.  None of those hosts and games.  The stage itself is designed for a rock show.”
