Ruffa on Annabelle: Her roots come from politics

She was initially against her mother’s plan to run for public office. But now, Ruffa Gutierrez is “all out” in supporting her mom, Annabelle Rama’s congressional bid in the 2013 elections.

During the tree planting activity of the “Enchanted Garden”cast at the Roosevelt Park in Dinalupihan, Bataan on Monday, October 8, the actress told members of the press that she’s afraid politics will make her mom’s life more complicated—but she’s “really decided to run.”

“Hindi siya nakikinig sa amin and she really wants to help her kababayan in Cebu. Kaming mga anak niya, we decided to support her all the way,” she explained. “Kumbaga, all out support na kami.”

Ruffa said she doesn’t find it strange her mother is running for public office. “A lot of people don’t know that my mom comes from a political family in Cebu,” she shared.

The Kapatid star further said: “Even if she is a talent manager here in showbiz, her roots really come from that, being in politics.”

“This is the time for her to be serious, this is the time for her to focus on that and help her kababayans in Cebu,” she added.

Blessing in disguise

More than that, Ruffa believes her mother is suited for Congress because she has “the heart” for it.

“For me, I should say the Cebuanos should vote for her because number one, she’s not a liar, she’s not corrupt. In terms of making laws for the government and being in Congress, I think it will be quite amusing to watch my mom there because I know she’ll really have a different presence,” Ruffa said, adding that Annabelle is already studying what to do in case she gets elected.

But isn’t she scared Annabelle will get more flak online because of her entry in politics?

Ruffa said it’s actually better now that her mother is busy preparing for her campaign because “she has no time to even read tweets.”

She added, “I think God is showing her this direction so it would veer her away from all the non-sense intrigas she’s been into lately.”

Invisible lover

Is Ruffa dating again?

“I’m still on a sabbatical,” she replied.

In previous interviews with the press, the “Enchanted Garden” star said she will only start accepting suitors again November of this year.

As for the previous rumors linking her to Derek Ramsay, Ruffa said:“Nothing happened. He’s my invisible lover. I never held his hand, we never went out on a date, we hardly text.”

She added, “Naglolokohan lang kami ni Derek. Sabi ko, ‘Ano ba yan, nauna pa yung balita.’ Grabe yung balitang yun, ha.”

Ruffa was previously linked to John Lloyd Cruz, who is rumored to be in a relationship with Angelica Panganiban. Angelica, in turn, was Derek’s ex-girlfriend. Derek also admitted to dating a non-showbiz girl.

“I think na-excite lang sila. Kasi syempre parang nagpalitan ng partners. Pero wala talaga, that’s the thing.”

Ruffa believes one doesn’t look for a relationship. “That just comes. Whoever God will have in my life, let’s see. Hindi naman ako nagmamadali. “

She added that she’s happy being single.

“I’m not a desperate woman who needs a man in her life. I’m so happy being single. I have no wrinkles, I have no stress. I can do what I want. I’m not answerable to anything except myself, God, and my children. And that’s it,” she said.

Working with Nora

The Kapatid star is also excited to work with Nora Aunor, who will be part of the last few weeks of her fantasy series “Enchanted Garden.”

“I’m sure she can also share a few tips of what she’s been through in the business, especially in terms of acting. Syempre, Ate Guy, parang institusyon na yan sa industriya,” she said. “Sana makaeksena ko siya.”

Working on “Enchanted Garden,” she added, is a welcome change because “it’s refreshing that my kids can also watch it and I have nothing to worry about.”
Her contract with TV5 will expire March 2013. Is she planning to switch networks?

“Hindi pa kami nag-uusap tungkol dyan so I don’t want to preempt anything. As of now, I have a contract with TV5 as of March so I’m gonna fulfill the contract.”

“Enchanted Garden” airs weeknights at 6:30 on TV5.
