Ruffa wants Lorin and Venice to follow in KC’s footsteps

As showbiz runs in the family, actress and TV host Ruffa Gutierrez would not mind if daughters Lorin and Venice decide to enter showbiz as long as they finish their studies first.

Ruffa said her daughters have shown interest in entering showbiz, especially with a family of celebrities surrounding them. However, working in showbiz full-time at their young age is still far-fetched, Ruffa stressed. She said she would allow them to do occasional showbiz projects, like TV appearances and magazines shoots, only during their school vacation.

“Why not? Siguro one day kapag nakapagtapos na sila ng pag-aaral nila. I’m not gonna stop their dreams. As of now, they can do it as a hobby, in between semesters or after school, pwede naman,” Ruffa said at the media launch of Progress Pre-school Gold at Top Shelf in Bonifacio High Street.

Lorin and Venice enjoyed their guesting stint in the ABS-CBN kiddie gag show “Going Bulilit” in 2010, Ruffa said. They have also done TV commercials and graced various magazine covers.

“I think they both love show business. They’re growing up in a family full of actors so I’m sure both of them would love to do it. I just make sure they study first and have them focus on their schooling,” she said.

Ruffa said that she actually wants them to follow the footsteps of Sharon Cuneta’s daughter, KC Concepcion, who graduated from college first before becoming an actress.

“I would like to say that my inspiration when it comes to that is KC Concepcion, that she really finished her studies. And then, pakonti-konti may work sya until she was able to finish college and then she went full time into showbiz. Hindi na importante nowadays na 12 years old ka pa lang magsho-showbiz ka na,” she said.

Ruffa is also specific with her dream for her daughters, which is for them to go to an Ivy League school.

“Gusto ko talaga lahat ng di ko nagawa sa  buhay ko, magawa naman nila, say, like, going to an Ivy League school or makatapos ng college. Kailangan nakatutok tayo kasi ito yung age na kailangan  nila ng guidance ng magulang. Now kasi, yun yung mga formative years,” Ruffa said.

The mother of two said that she’s grateful that her family helps her in guiding Lorin and Venice. Being a single working mom, Ruffa said she tries to “balance being a mom and a dad.”

When asked regarding the support of her estranged husband Yilmaz Bektas, “I can say that I’m the full provider of Lorraine and Venice and I make the decision for them. I’m their mom and their dad at the same time,” Ruffa said in a separate interview at TV5’s “Sugod mga Kapatid sa Sinulog 2012.” She added that Yilmaz is free to visit Lorin and Venice anytime.

Ruffa admitted that her daughters also look for a father figure and she hopes she can also find the right man for her, who will also love her daughters as his own.

“It’s normal na maghanap sila ng father figure. And for me, I don’t introduce them to anyone. For me, it’s basically, let’s just wait for the right time until God’s perfect time that he provides me with the right partner that I’ll be with for the rest of my life,” she said.

Ruffa may be busy taking care of her daughters, but she also has her hands full with various projects, including a new movie under Regal Films and a new contract with Viva Entertainment.

“I’m also signing with Viva, they’re gonna take care of my events and endorsements. I’m very happy with the partnership of Viva and my mom. My mom is still gonna be handling my TV and movie projects.” Ruffa said.
