Shutterstock reveals its color trends of 2014

Green images were among the most popular in the early part of 2014, while beige is going out of style, according to a new infographic by stock photo site Shutterstock.

The company has lifted the lid on which colors are trending where so far this year, with North America leaning towards images with lots of greens and blues, such as sky, sea and fields; Africa favoring reds and oranges; and Russia, China and Argentina opting for pinks.

Downloads of green images peaked during the first few months of the year, during the run-up to the World Cup when the global spotlight was shining on the football pitches of Brazil, Shutterstock claims on its blog.

Predominantly gray images have also increased in popularity -- perhaps in part due to the success of the "Fifty Shades of Grey" phenomenon.

Following color company Pantone's assertion that the color of 2014 was ‘Radiant Orchid', purple has also seen its profile boosted.
