Sneijder vindicated by Galatasaray move

Galatasaray midfielder Wesley Sneijder has claimed his decision to leave Inter Milan for the Turkish champions has been vindicated by the Turkish champions run to the Champions League quarter-finals.

The Dutch international left the Serie A side in January to move to Istanbul and believes the fact he will face old side Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabeu on Wednesday shows he made the right decision.

"I'm very happy at Galatasaray, I have felt very welcome since the day I arrived," he told a press conference on Tuesday.

"It's an amazing club. I'm definitely sure I made the right choice in coming here. I wanted to make a step forward, not back after Inter, and look where I am now: playing Real Madrid in the quarter finals of the Champions League, so I think I made the right choice."

Sneijder will team up with the joint top-scorer in the Champions League Burak Yilmaz and a winner of the competition last season in Didier Drogba for the visitors and he believes they have the weapons to spring a surprise.

"We are here to win the game, we have not come here to wait and defend, we are here to play the way we want to because we have a strong team. It's no surprise that we are in the Champions League quarters finals because of the players we have."

Sneijder also said it will be a special experience to play against his old manager Jose Mourinho.

The two won the Champions League at the Bernabeu in 2010 during their time at Inter Milan, however he insists friendships will be set aside for one night at least.

"It's amazing for me to play against him tomorrow, we had a great time together, but we have to forget about it now," he said.

"Tomorrow we are enemies, we are not friends any longer."
