Star Magic artists give back

Christmas came early for ABS-CBN’s Star Magic artists when they gathered for a one-night concert on Sunday November 20, for the benefit of various charities and foundations.

Proceeds of “A Night to Give Back” headlined by Piolo Pascual and held at Zirkoh Tomas Morato, will be donated to ABS-CBN’s Sagip Kapamilya, Elsie Gaches Village Reception and Study Center for Children and Sanctuary Center.

“Since we have so many artists and it’s almost Christmas, we thought that it’s nice to do something for a cause. So we want to give back to the community and pay it forward. Kung ano mang proceeds dito ay mapupunta sa aming mga beneficiaries,” Piolo said in an interview backstage.

John Lapus and Maja Salvador hosted the show, pro bono.  Vina Morales likewise waived her talent fee to perform Lady Gaga’s “Born This Way.”

Jed Madela impressed the audience by performing “Hero” and “Stand by Me.”

Among the other Star Magic artists who donated time and talent were Sam Milby, Yeng Constantino, Matteo Guidicelli, Xian Lim, Jed Madela, JM de Guzman, Richard Poon, Rayver Cruz, Sam Concepcion, Markki Stroem, Jovit Baldovino, Bugoy Drilon, Liezel Garcia, Marcelito Pomoy, Young JV, Guji Lorenzana, Van Roxas and Pierro, Star Power finalists Akiko, Monica and Krissel and Tippi dos Santos.

Most of the artists performed two songs each, so the show lasted for three hours. Star Magic heads Johnny Manahan and Mariole Alberto also graced the event.

Other notable performances were Sam and Yeng’s mash-up number of Jason Mraz’s “I’m Yours” and Jessie J’s “Price Tag.” Sam also sang his single “Hindi Kita Iiwan” while Yeng belted out Adelle’s “Someone Like You.”

Xian, prepared two numbers for his screaming fans.

“It feels really good to be here. Actually it’s my second concert na naging part ako, it’s always a pleasure to do something for a cause,” Xian said in the interview.

Worried Piolo

Piolo admitted he was first concerned about how he and Star Magic can pull off the event and gather the artists despite their busy schedule. But he was surprised many of them actually wanted to help out.

“It was hard to mount especially that Sunday is a family day. I was concerned din na baka it’s hard to put them together. But actually we had a hard time trimming down the artists because many would like to take part in the program. We also thank our sponsors and endorsements who helped us,” Piolo added.

Star Magic’s “A Night to Remember” was a big success as the venue was jampacked. Artists who joined the concert were grateful to Piolo for organizing the concert.

“It’s a night to give back. It was basically organized by Piolo Pascual. No talent fee, it’s our way of giving back to the people,” Matteo Guidicelli explained.

At the end of the show, Maja excitedly sang “Hawak Kamay” together with the rest of Star Magic artists.

Happy to help

“Masaya na nakakatulong kami. Sa lahat ng blessing na dumadating sa amin, it’s time na kami naman ang mag-give back. Kahit hindi pa talaga Christmas, ginagawa na namin ito. Ang may utak sa lahat ng ito ay si Piolo Pascual. Nakakatuwa na ang mga kapatid namin sa Star Magic ay suportado ang event na ito,” Maja said.
