Star Magic artists recently shifted to competitive mode and showed their athletic skills when they joined the second annual Star Magic Games.

Artists from ABS-CBN’s talent center, their managers and handlers gathered at Colegio San Agustin in Makati City last July 31, where they were divided into four teams to compete in sports and relay games. The yellow, blue, red and green team competed in major games such as basketball, volleyball, badminton and dodgeball. Others also participated in tug-of-war, patintero and mini fun-run.

Despite the early start time, the stars were  excited to join the games.

Megan Young and Andrei Felix opened the show, while Enchong Dee led the oath of sportsmanship.

John Lloyd Cruz also gave his opening remarks and teased the artists about  taking revenge on their managers. “Isa ito sa mga most anticipated because this is your only chance para supalpalin ang mga handlers nyo,” he joked.

Most artists share the same sentiment. They look at the games as a chance to o set aside work and just enjoy each other’s company.

“Masaya ang Star Magic Games kase wala kayong pinag-uusapan na trabaho. Pumunta kayo dito para lang talaga maglaro. Pati yung nga dating nakatrabaho mo na mga artista, you get to catch up,” Enchong told Yahoo! Philippines OMG  and members of the press.

Since this is a rare chance for most Star Magic artists to get  together at the same time, they feel that the games  is a reunion of sorts, and not just a sports fest where they all compete.

“Parang mga reunion namin mga artists. Walang arti-artista, fun lang talaga. So ito yung nilu-look forward namin every year,” Kathryn Bernardo said.

Julia Montes, who is with the same team as her friend Kathryn, wished that there was a basketball for girls. “I played patintentero, dodgeball, tug-of-war. Sa tatlong yun, talo kami lahat. Mahilig ako sa basktebal, pero wala, so sayang naman,” Julia shared.

The most anticipated  event was the basketball game between Star Magic artists and ASAP Rocks team. The Star Magic team was led by Gerald Anderson,  a basketball enthusiast and last year’s MVP. Other players were Xian Lim, Arron Villaflor, Young JV, Rayver Cruz, Ryan Bang and Jason Abalos.

The ASAP Rocks team was composed of Gary and Gab Valenciano, Derek Ramsey, Vhong Navarro, Jhong Hilario, Billy Crawford, John Pratts, Erik Tai and Martin Nievera. Piolo Pascual didn’t join the  game, but played badminton where his team won.

It was a close fight as ASAP team won by one point in a score of 80-79. The ASAP team were leading in the first two quarters, but Star Magic  was able to catch up in the final quarter.

“Sayang ang dalawang free throws. It was a fun game. Other than that, the challenge was there. Everyone enjoyed, pero sayang yung game. There’s always next time, though,” Xian Lim said. Xian used to play in the varsity team of University of the East.

Also spotted were couples Shaina Magdayao and John Lloyd, Christine Reyes and Rayver Cruz, Angelika Panganiban and Derek Ramsey. Some Star Magic artists like Jake Cuenca, Coco Martin, Bea Alonzo, Diether Ocampo and Zanjoe Marudo were unable  to attend.

The Red Team, which includes Kim Chiu, Albie Casino, Kathryn Bernardo and Julia Montes among others, was declared  overall champion. Kristel Moreno was  MVP for volleyball, while Boom Labrusca was her counterpart in  basketball.
