How the 'Star Wars: Battlefront' trailer matched up to rumors

"Star Wars: Battlefront" majored on the original films

With the dust settling after the "Star Wars: Battlefront" game received its first trailer, we take a look and see which prominent rumors made it through unscathed.

One particularly exciting source of rumor material was a February posting from MakingStarWars, which had received a fairly comprehensive list of details.

Direct hits were scored on plans for a wealth of post-release add-on content, and a dedication to replicating the "Star Wars" look -- easily extrapolated from previous information available, sceptics might say.

Multiplayer
Battles will involve up to 40 players, rather than the max 64-person headcount of the "Battlefield" series on Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC.

Narrative scope
In step with the spirit of "The Force Awakens," studio reps referenced the original "Star Wars" trilogy, ignoring the prequel trilogy. No all-encompassing saga here, and perhaps that's for the best.

Pre-"Force Awakens" material
That said, some events will take place between the original "Star Wars" films and "The Force Awakens," with pre-order incentive "The Battle of Jakku" to set up the new film.

No space battles
Surface-based X-Wing and TIE Fighter sequences will be present, but "no space battles. It's all about the epic planetary battles and getting that right," producer Craig McLeod told IGN. That appears to rule out space-to-land battles too.

Hero system
While not confirming a "hero system" directly, better players appear able to access iconic characters, Boba Fett and Darth Vader being namechecked by Eurogamer.

No lengthy or traditional campaign
"Star Wars Battlefront" is selling itself as a multiplayer experience with smaller, crafted co-op experiences on the side. Will those combine to form a considerable campaign time sink?

Release date
"Battlefront" will arrive the week of November 17 rather than the December 10 date derived from a temporary listing on GameStop Italia.

New perspective
Players can indeed switch between first and third person perspectives. This confirms assertions made by anonymous NeoGAF forum user yohan12, who claimed membership of a focus testing group.

Visual fidelity
Employees at "Battlefront" studio DICE hyped the trailer before its release as something that would "break the internet," pre-empting incredulity by saying "yes, that is what the game looks like." Amid a cautious response to the trailer's "in-engine" rather than pure "gameplay" footage, yohan12 confirmed "100%" that an airborne canyon chase sequence was representative of the game's visuals.
