Stephen Hawking, Elvis: the latest from Record Store Day

In the final lead-up to Record Store Day on Saturday, a number of artists (and one scientist) have revealed their plans for celebrating the independent record store.

Never one to disappoint, US musician Jack White has a number of releases and featured events coming up, many taking place at his Third Man Records headquarters in Nashville.

In addition to an already announced vinyl pressing of the White Stripes' 2005 album "Get Behind Satan" with an updated 3D lenticular cover, as well as a vinyl re-release of Elvis Presley's early recordings, visitors to Third Man Records will be able to view the original 10'' disc by Presley, which White purchased at auction back in January.

But perhaps the most noteworthy of Third Man Records' plans is a chance for visitors to record themselves "in the exact same way Elvis did" -- "one mic, one song, cut directly to a 10" disc," and recorded on the same stage that's hosted artists such as Jerry Lee Lewis and the Raconteurs.

Perhaps the most headline-grabbing release this year is a recording of world-famous physicist Stephen Hawking covering Monty Python's "Galaxy Song." First revealed via a video that quickly went viral and then made available for digital download, the record will be out in limited edition 7" vinyls in both the US and the UK.

Watch the video at www.youtube.com/watch?v=XfcC6FYyL4U, download the track at itunes.apple.com/album/stephen-hawking-sings-monty/id977996184, or wait for Saturday to get a physical copy.

Other artists revealing music in the final stretch including Courtney Barnett and Garbage, both of who have shared videos for their Record Store Day singles.

Plans for some of the many live shows planned for Saturday have also been revealed in recent days. Among them: the Dresden Dolls will reunite for a free show at Rough Trade NYC, Tim Burgess of the Charlatans will be DJing at Piccadilly Records in Manchester, and Foo Fighters -- led by Record Store Day's 2015 ambassador, Dave Grohl -- will touch down for an intimate show in Niles, Ohio.

Previously announced highlights include releases from the Violent Femmes, Brian Wilson, Paul McCartney, David Bowie, D'Angelo, Foo Fighters, U2, Johnny Cash, Metallica and Johnny Marr.
