Stockholm International Film Festival launches new award

Stockholm has created a new award for an international film to be presented at their upcoming festival

The inaugural Stockholm Impact Award will be presented to an international movie at the festival to take place from November 11 to 22.

A nod to what the festival describes as “headstrong visionaries who reflect our contemporary world,” the Impact lineup will consist of up to ten films from around the globe, reports Variety.

To be considered for the lineup, films must be premiering either in Europe or internationally at the festival,

The winning director will receive a grant of 1 million SEK, approximately $120,000, to fund his project.

Festival director Git Scheynius is confident the new award will be considered one of the most important international film awards.

"Several factors point to Stockholm as an ideal platform, the timing after Toronto and AFM is attractive for a European launch,” says Scheynius.
