The Dawn ‘nearly got at each other’s throats’ on new record

Calling it a very “un-Dawn thing,” Jett Pangan revealed that The Dawn “nearly get on each other's throats” while recording their new song.

“We invested so much of ourselves on this one,” the vocalist explained in a Facebook post dated June 23.

In fact, he got uncharacteristically emotional just by listening back to an early version of the song.

One helluva number

“Called Buddy (Zabala, the band’s bassist) to basically rave about the track,” he wrote. Buddy wrote the song with lyrics by Vin Dancel.

“It's a rough mix but it did one thing to me that no new Dawn song has done before: bring a little tear to my eye,” he confessed

“Yes, if I may say so—it’s one helluva number.”

New album in 5 years

Addressing his followers, Jett added, “Before this song (hopefully) rocks your world, it has already rocked ours…. Long live Pinoy rock music \m/.”

The song they were recording was  “Habulan,” the band’s newly released single. It’s got all the hallmarks of a classic Dawn tune: hook-y and anthemic, but with a new lightness.

The band will perform the song during Landmarks, a solo concert scheduled on Friday, August 8, at the Music Museum in Greenhills. “Habulan” will also be a part of the Dawn’s upcoming album due out before the end of the year.

Tribute and fresh tracks

In fact, during their Landmarks concert, the band is set to unveil more fresh tracks from the forthcoming album. The Dawn released their last studio album “Sound the Alarm” 5 years ago.

The band, composed of Jett, original member and drummer JB Leonor, bassist and ex-and-current Eraserhead Buddy Zabala, is also introducing brand new guitar-wielding recruit Sancho during the show. Sancho sessioned with the Eraserheads during their London gig earlier this year.

Along with the new stuff, the Dawn will cover the milestones of their 25-year career, an appropriate tribute to the legacy of founder and guitarist Teddy Diaz, who wrote the hit that made the band, “Enveloped Ideas.”
