The Solenn Heussaff you don't know

There is no trace of the glamorous Solenn Heussaff in the jologs lady who wears  simple tees, leaves her long hair uncombed,  cuts her unmanicured nails short and pops her pimples  at home. And yet, they're one and the same.

The difference is, Solenn dresses down when she's home and glams it up wheh she faces the camera.

But the real Solenn is the one who freaks her mom out because she (Solenn) would just wash her face and body with plain soap and water, even if she can afford the most expensive body wash in the market.

Mom’s warning

“Naku, anak, pag matanda ka na, ang mukha mo!” her mom exclaimed.

Most of Solenn’s friends were guys.  And Solenn absorbed their  devil-may-care ways when it comes to looks.

“Girls  judge you by the way you look.  They look at you up and down.  The guys, mas chill, mas relaxed,” she told Yahoo! Philippines Celebrity.

True enough, Solenn stepped into the Yahoo office, a stone’s throw away from her home in an exclusive subdivision,  in  a pair of casual shorts and blouse.  Her long, black hair fell languidly on her shoulders.  And she still managed to look classy and glamorous.

The casual look made you think she is ready to go down on all fours and perform cartwheels the way she did for the trailer of her upcoming film, Star Cinema’s “Da Possessed,” where Solenn plays Vhong Navarro’s wacky leading lady.

Sense of humor

“I  used to do cartwheels when I was younger, but that was not in the last 10 years. So when they said I had to tumble, nag-practise ako sa lawn ng parents ko,” Solenn recalls.

What she said next shows Solenn’s  self-deprecating sense of humor.

“Sabi ng mom ko, ‘Parang baliw ang anak ko.”

The ability to poke fun at herself goes well with Solenn’s complete absence of vanity  away from the camera.

“I never have my nails done.  I cut them myself. Ayaw ko ng long nails.”

No salon lover

Unlike her showbiz collegues, Solenn doesn’t frequent salons.

“Ayaw kong pumunta sa salon,” she makes a face.

She finds hair treatments unnecessary and would  rather engage in sports than follow a beauty regimen.

Solenn’s close friends,  Isabelle Daza and Georgina Wilson  remind her to indulge now and then.

“They always make fun of me. Sila Belle (Isabelle) and Georgina, they have  massage daily. They go to the spa at least twice a week. They tell me you have to get into it,” says Solenn.

Holy Week trip

But Solenn’s cup of tea is different.  Aside from sports (running as early as 6 a.m. with Nico Bolzico, her Argentinean boyfriend), Solenn loves meeting new people, trying new things.

This Holy Week, for instance, Solenn, Nico, her brother Erwan Heussaff and his girlfriend Anne Curtis are going on a four-day trip to laidback Myanmar.  The foursome chose Myanmar because it’s still developing.

“It’s untouched. I’ve researched on it. It’s so serene.  We will relax,  visit temples, do some meditation and running, and try the food,”  gushes Solenn.

New travel show

She’d rather go there  now,  while Myanmar’s beauty is raw and unspoiled. That way, Solenn explains, she can enjoy its culture to the hilt.

When she comes back, Solenn will start on something right up her alley:   a travel summer special called “Isla” for GMA News TV.

“I’m going to Coron (Palawan) ! It’s exciting!” Solenn’s eyes dance with delight.

For someone like Solenn who can’t say no to a good adventure, “Isla” is an answered prayer like no other.
