The story behind ‘A Thousand Years’ and why it almost got snubbed by ‘Twilight’

Christina Perri sings "A Thousand Years"

MANILA, Philippines - At 28, Christina Perri confessed she’s been dreaming new dreams at the moment because she has accomplished a few of the previous ones at an early age.

The singer-songwriter behind the hits “Jar of Hearts,” “Human,” and “A Thousand Years” spoke to Yahoo Philippines ahead of her March 5 concert at the Big Dome and opened up about her biggest break to date—the song that easily became the anthem of the vampire-themed romance franchise.

Here's what she had to say about the whole "Twilight" experience.

I actually wrote the song for the movie Twilight Breaking Dawn Part 1. They asked me to write the song for the wedding scene of the movie, which is very funny because it never made into the wedding scene. I saw the movie (before anyone else) and I went home and I wrote the song and I imagined Bella and Edward and imagined them walking down the aisle getting married to the song. What’s really funny is they didn’t use it for the wedding in the movie, they put it in the credits. I was a little bit disappointed but then I said I’m still so lucky that they picked the song and that they put it in the credits. I’m satisfied with my Twilight  experience. And then what happened a year later was they asked me to put the song in the next movie to be the last six minutes of the whole saga. So I ended up getting the swan song of the whole thing because I think I was patient and gracious with them choosing it for a different song.
